Making Carpets as One of the Oldest Craft in Moroccan Art

One of the most creative Moroccan art is their skill in making carpets. The weaving of carpet is undoubtedly one of the oldest craft in Morocco. The carpet has gained importance to the lives of every family because it is mainly used as protection from the cold. It is also used as a decorative object and many families resort to it as a source of supplementary income.

Rural carpets are the work of a business homestead. In order to save the tradition, various school and cooperatives specializes in training people and helping them to create carpets. Their carpets are generally large and very thick, display a red or white background and mixed with other color. The carpets are adorned with diamonds, and different shapes to make it look more elegant.

City carpets on the other hand are oriental inspired adorned with star-shaped motifs and floral designs on a plain background. They use red color to give them a more traditional side and blue for a more modern look.
